I accompanied my Associate Teacher and her Grade 1's on the bus and I was assigned a group of 6 students for the trip duration. Since starting Practicum I have learned that to go on field trips, there needs to be a ratio of one teacher/adult volunteer per eight students, which is pretty important information! We visited the stables where the horses are kept, got to see the arena where they train, and toured around the museum, as well. The students had so much fun meeting the horses and asking impressive questions, one of which was, "How old are horses in people years, you know, like how there's dog years?". (:

A Spook-tacular day in GrADE 2/3October 30, 2015
Today I had the pleasure of helping out in a 2/3 split class at a school which holds a special place in my heart - my old elementary school, St. Clare. I spent the morning helping prepare different Halloween themed centres which focused on engaging the students through their senses. The second half of the day was spent actually running them. The students loved learning in this extremely hands-on way! The centres were set up as the following: Taste: 'Swamp Juice' Students mixed different colors of juices around in cups and predicted what each concoction would taste like before sampling. Hear: 'Monster Brains' After listening and following along with a Halloween themed story, the students dared to stick their hands into the mystery pumpkin and describe what they felt (it was noodles in water :) ). |
