WELCOME TO MISS COLEMAN'S CLASSROOM!
Welcome to Miss Coleman's space of learning, sharing, creativity and growth! My name is Jessica and I am an Ontario Certified Teacher. I am currently working as a Designated Occasional Teacher (or 'DOT') with Hopewell Ave Public School, a K-8 school with the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB). I began this role in February 2019, and so far I am finding it both challenging and incredibly rewarding. Not only am I gaining experience in a variety of classrooms within Hopewell, I am also redeployed to other schools within the Ottawa area and have had the opportunity to see how students are finding success in other schools, too. From 2017-2018 I completed a Masters in Education, concentration in Societies, Cultures and Languages, at the University of Ottawa. Some of my favorite topics of study included 'Youth Culture, Pop Culture, and Pedagogy', 'Racism and Anti-racism in Education', and 'Education of Marginalized Youth'. Through my coursework, experiences with colleagues, and conversations with professors, I have become fascinated with the interconnection between people, society, and the education system. In 2017 I completed my Bachelor of Education from the University of Ottawa. While working on my Master of Education degree, I was also on the Occasional Teacher List at the Ottawa Jewish Community School. In my site, you will find posts about my teaching journey, resources I am finding helpful, situations I have come across in the classroom, and work that my students have completed. I have also included assignments and projects from my B.Ed. and M.Ed. and artifacts and reflections from my Community Service Learning and Practicum placements. You will also find links to the official web pages of the various educational institutions which I have attended or worked in, as well as my personal blog, where I offer a glimpse into the challenging, dynamic, and rewarding profession I have entered!
